Honey Benefits – Raw Organic Honey

History actually shows that honey has been used for centuries as a remedy for many ailments. It even goes back to ancient Roman times when the people of Rome ate honey for its health benefits. Aristotle, Hippocrates, and Dioscorides of ancient Rome actually recommended the use of raw honey as a natural food health source. The Roman people would even offer raw honey straight from the hive to their well respected guests saying, “Here is honey which God provided for your health.”

So, if honey has been known for centuries that it’s such a great natural health source, we today need to pay attention to our health and incorporate raw honey into our life.

Honey Benefits: Nutritional Value

Did you know that honey has many nutrients in it that your body needs. Yes it’s sugar, but a healthy kind of sugar. Not all sugars are created equal. Table sugar on the other hand has no nutrient value. Table sugar along with high fructose corn syrup and other unhealthy sugars will make you gain weight. Honey is a good sugar that your body quickly absorbs into your blood stream and converts to energy, mainly because it consists of two sugars called dextrose (glucose or grape sugar) and levulose (fructose or fruit sugar), which do not need processed by digestion.

Honey benefits you because it’s a all natural healthy sweetener with nutritional value and will give you a quick energy boost.

Here are some of the nutrients found in honey:

  • natural antioxidants
  • enzymes
  • amino acids
  • vitamins
  • minerals
  • calcium
  • iron
  • zinc
  • potassium
  • phosphorous
  • magnesium
  • copper
  • chromium
  • manganese
  • selenium

With all of these nutritious ingredients in honey, it just makes sense to use it in place of table sugar. Just like anything else though, a good thing is at its best in the natural form, so you want to make sure you eat organic raw honey that has not been heated or processed in any way. Heat destroys most of its nutrients.

So, next time you go grocery shopping, check out the honey on the shelf. You might be able to find raw honey. It will say “Raw Honey” if it is. However, it may not be organic, in that it should come from a bee farm that has natural organic land where no pesticides are used. Bees collect nectar from flowers so we want to make sure that nectar is coming from a very healthy organic flower that was naturally grown without any chemicals or pesticides.
